1. What Are Washington D.C. Sportsbook Promos?

Washington D.C. sportsbook promos are special betting offers like free bets, odds boosts, and deposit bonuses available to eligible users within the district. These promotions used to be tied to specific locations due to unique geofencing rules with FanDuel being the only sportsbook to offer citywide access but this has since changed.

  • Sportsbooks could previously only offer promos within a 2-block radius of their retail location.
  • FanDuel is no longer the only app offering district-wide sportsbook promos.
  • Promos include bet-and-get offers, no-deposit bonuses, and profit boosts.
  • Users must be 18+ and physically located in eligible areas to claim promos.
  • Promotions may vary depending on whether you're using a mobile app or betting in-person.

2. What Type of Sportsbook Promos are Available in Washington D.C.?

In Washington DC, sports bettors can take advantage of various types of sportsbook promos to maximize their betting profits. Some of the most common include:

  1. Free Bets: With a free bet the sportsbook will gift you bonus site credit after you place a bet. This is the most common form of welcome bonus. E.g. 'Bet $5 get a $150 free bet.

Also Known As: Bonus bets, "bet x get x" offers, free plays, bonus credits.

  2. Risk Free Bets: With risk-free bets the sportsbook refunds your stake if your bet loses (usually in the form of a free bet). E.g. a sportsbook offers a $100 risk free bet, if you wager $100 and win, you take the winnings. If you lose, you are refunded your $100.

Also Known As: No sweat bets, second chance bets, first bet insurance.

  3. Deposit Bonuses: With a deposit bonus, the sportsbook will offer an additional percentage bonus on top of your initial deposit amount. E.g. if the offer is a 50% deposit bonus and you deposit $100, the sportsbook will offer you an extra $50.

    Also Known As: Deposit Matches.

  4. No Deposit Bonuses: As the name suggests, no deposit bonuses don't require a deposit to be gifted. E.g. with a $300 no deposit bonus, after you sign up the sportsbook will immediately fund your account with $300 (usually in free bets).

Also known As: No deposit cash.

  5. Reload Offers: Unlike welcome bonuses, reload offers are promos that can be offered to sportsbook customers long after they've signed up. Coming in many forms, from free bets to enhanced odds, these offers provide continued value for bettors.

Also Known As: Reload bonuses, ongoing offers.

  6. Profit Boosts: Profit boosts provide a percentage increase to a person’s profits on a wager should they win. For example, if the sportsbook adds a 50% profit boost to a game and you earn $100 profit from it, the sportsbook will up your profit to $150.

    Also Known As: Cash boosts.

  7. Odds Boosts: With odds boosts, the sportsbook enhances the odds on a certain bet (usually a prop bet). This enables bettors to earn higher winnings from the same stake. E.g. Houston Astros & Colorado Rockies both to win, was +190, now 240+.

Also Known As: Enhanced odds, price boosts.

3. Which Sportsbooks in Washington D.C. Offer Promos?

There are currently a few sportsbooks in Washington DC which offer promos to new customers. Before the 2024 Sports Wagering Amendment Act, most were only allowed to operate within some pretty tough restrictions. For example, their mobile apps were previously only accessible within a 2-block radius of their retail sportsbook.

However, things have since changed, which has opened up the market to more competition.

  1. FanDuel Sportsbook: Known for its user-friendly interface and generous promos, FanDuel took over from DC Office of Lottery and Gaming-run platform, GambetDC, in April 2024. FanDuel was previously the only online sportsbook permitted to offer sports betting everywhere in Washington D.C.

  2. Caesars Sportsbook: Located inside Capital One Arena, Caesars Sportsbook offers in-person promos like bet credits and odds boosts, available only within a two-block radius due to D.C.’s strict geofencing rules.

  3. DraftKings Sportsbook: DraftKings operates only mobile sports betting in DC and is currently not present with retail (in-person) sports betting in the state.

  4. Fanatics Sportsbook: Launched in September 2024, Fanatics became D.C.'s 5th sportsbook and due to its partnership with the Washington Commanders, is the first ever sportsbook located inside an NFL stadium.

  5. BetMGM: BetMGM operates a retail sportsbook in Washington D.C., offering localized promos near Nationals Park. Mobile access is restricted to a two-block zone around the venue.

BetMGM Yes Yes BetMGM Nationals Park

What The Data Says

What Makes FanDuel's Promos Unique in Washington D.C.?

FanDuel is the only sportsbook in Washington D.C. with citywide mobile access, which gives it a promotional edge over its competitors.

After replacing the struggling GambetDC platform in 2024, FanDuel has introduced a broader variety of promos that don’t require bettors to be near a specific sports venue. These include “Bet $5, Get $150” welcome bonuses, odds boosts, parlay insurance, and weekly profit boosts. All of which are accessible from anywhere within the district. FanDuel’s seamless app experience also makes it easier for new users to claim and track their bonuses compared to D.C.’s past platforms.

While other sportsbooks like Caesars and BetMGM may offer solid in-venue promos, FanDuel stands out by offering 24/7 access and better app functionality. For D.C. residents or visitors looking to bet conveniently and consistently, FanDuel’s range of district-wide sportsbook promos make it the go-to choice for online sports betting in Washington D.C.

4. Can You Stack Sportsbook Promos in Washington D.C.?

In Washington D.C., stacking sportsbook promos is possible, but it depends on the sportsbook’s rules and whether you're betting with a retail-based or district-wide operator. For example, D.C.’s only fully mobile option, FanDuel, typically allows users to claim one welcome offer, followed by ongoing promos like odds boosts and profit boosts.

However, retail-linked sportsbooks like Caesars and BetMGM may have location-exclusive promos, including in-person reload bonuses or event-based free bets, which you can stack with ongoing app offers if you’re within their geofenced zones. This creates a strategic opportunity for D.C. bettors. By physically visiting multiple sportsbooks and combining localized promotions with digital offers, you can significantly boost your promo value.

Just make sure to read the fine print! Most promos hold a one-time use, and some can’t be used in conjunction with others. When used wisely, promo stacking in Washington D.C. can turn a small bankroll into a much larger betting experience.

5. How Do Washington D.C. Sportsbook Promos Differ From Other Locations?

Washington D.C. sportsbook promos stand out due to the district’s unique betting landscape. Unlike most states, sportsbook apps in D.C. are tied to physical retail locations. This means that most promos are geo-restricted to specific areas like Capital One Arena or Nationals Park.

While FanDuel has always enjoyed district-wide coverage as the exclusive citywide mobile provider, other brands like Caesars and BetMGM were previously only able to offer promotions within a two-block radius of their venue. This made D.C. a highly localized sports betting market.

Bettors can’t just download any app from the App Store. Instead, they must be physically near the corresponding sportsbook. As a result, D.C. sportsbook promos often include in-person boosts, location-based free bets, and special offers tied to local teams or events.

If you're betting in Washington D.C., it's crucial to understand where you are before you bet as location can be the difference between accessing a $100 free bet or missing out entirely.

Edit to the above: Thanks to the Sports Wagering Amendment Act of 2024, multiple mobile apps, including BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, and DraftKings, are now available district-wide.

What Our Experts Say

"The Amendment Act has finally unlocked competition in D.C., letting top-tier operators like BetMGM and Caesars expand city-wide. That means better odds, bigger promos, and real choice for bettors, something the market’s desperately needed after years under a single-operator model."

11. How Do We Rate and Review Washington DC Promos & Bonuses?

Our team of sports betting experts have racked up decades of experience sourcing and converting sportsbook promos across the US and Europe. Using their industry know-how and the latest promo comparison software, they analyze, rate and rank the top bonuses in each state so you don't have to.

Six of the most important factors they consider when rating promos are:

  • Maximum Bonus Value: While higher amounts are appealing, bigger isn't always better, as larger bonuses can be more difficult to obtain.

  • Personal Investment: Most bonuses require a minimum deposit or wager to activate.

  • Ease Of Use: In most cases bonuses are pretty easy to claim - often requiring a small deposit to unlock. However, some promos have slightly more complex rules.

  • Playthrough Requirements & Odds Restrictions: Typically, bonuses cannot be immediately withdrawn as cash; you must wager the bonus amount a certain number of times first.

  • Bonus Expiry Date: It's important to know how long you have to use the bonus funds and whether that timeframe is sufficient.

  • Additional Perks: Some bonuses include extra rewards points or bonus spins at the sportsbook's casino.

However, whilst we'll do everything possible to share with you the best sportsbook promos in your state every month, it's important to also remember the risks that can come with these bonuses.

12. Are There Any Risks Attached to Sportsbook Promos in Washington DC?

While claiming sportsbook promos can be a great way to maximize your betting profits in Washington DC, it's crucial to be aware of their potential risks.

Four of the most notable risks attached to promo offers are:

  • No Guaranteed Winnings: Whether it's a $150 free bet, a $1,000 risk free bet or a 50% deposit bonus, if you place your bonus credit on a losing bet you will still come away with no more cash than when you started.

  • Risk of Losing Money: One of the most common ways bettors lose money through promos is through risk free bets. Let's say you're gifted a $500 risk free bet and you place your $500 on the losing side of a game, you won't be refunded with $500 of withdrawable cash, but instead $500 of site credit (often in the form of a free bet). Place this free bet on the losing side and you've just lost $500 to the sportsbook.

  • Limited Number of Sign-Up Bonuses: While sign-up bonuses can be generous, you can only ever receive one sign-up bonus from each sportsbook (when you first create an account). This means that there's only a set number of sign-up bonuses available to each user. As a result, relying purely on these may not be a sustainable long-term plan.

  • Misuse of Promos: Certain promos have more complex rules and often hidden T&Cs. As a result, if you go into them without proper guidance and support you can risk reducing the amount of overall profit you earn, or worse, lose money.

But it isn't all doom and gloom. There is one way you can convert promos into profits.

13. How to Maximize Profit from Sportsbook Promos & Bonuses

While it's true risks can arise when claiming sportsbook promos, one clever technique exists that can help you bank profits.

Promo conversion (A.K.A matched betting), is a fully legal, super simple (with the right platform) method of turning sportsbook promos into cash.

matched betting process

Simply put, it involves betting on one side of a game to qualify for a sportsbook promo, then betting on the other side to cover both outcomes, so no matter who wins, you win. Repeat this process using your new promo and voila! You've locked in a profit.
